 LIST OF ISSUES

PROBATE AND JUVENILE MATTERS

Few people realize that the District Court is a court of original jurisdiction for probate matters.  In plain English, when a loved one passes away, District Court is typically the first place to go to handle a person's estate whether they had a will or not.  Appearing in court can be stressful, especially when dealing with the loss of a loved one.  I have practiced probate matters for many years and will deal with these cases competently and with the individuals before me with compassion as they try to sort out estate matters.

Juvenile matters also require a great deal of empathy as well as a measure of grace and deterrence.  As a mother, I am uniquely equipped for handling these matters and will strive for the best possible outcome.

TRAFFIC COURT

If you drive a vehicle, chances are sooner or later you will get pulled over for a traffic violation.  You may later have to appear in District Court because of a traffic violation.  I will do my best to handle these matters quickly and justly with an appropriate balance of kindness and encouragement to individuals not to engage in repeat offenses or endanger others.

SMALL CLAIMS

For those who end up in small claims court, these matters are often anything but small.  I will treat these matters with the attention to detail they deserve.

MISDEMEANORS AND VIOLATIONS

Kentucky District Courts deal with lesser criminal charges known as misdemeanors and violations.  I pledge to be fair and seek justice when dealing with these cases and the individuals they concern.

The District Judge also handles arraignments and felony probable cause hearings.  I am well-prepared to do so.

COMPETENCY AND COMMITMENTS

District Courts are charged with the task of trying issues related to competency.  The District Court must also hear commitment cases; these cases may be voluntary or involuntary.  Either way, they are very important and are not to be taken lightly.  I take them seriously and would do so on the bench.

CIVIL MATTERS

District Courts are also courts of limited jurisdiction handling civil matters involving $5,000.00 or less.  I have handled a wide variety of cases in civil practice and seen many more working for the court.  I am prepared to deal fairly with the cases that would come before me on the bench as a District Court Judge.

District Court Judges also hear cases involving city and county ordinances.  I am well-equipped to do so.
